Are the sony PS2 AV cable and PS3 AV cable the same?

Basically i would like to know if the two cables are the same, so i could use use my PS2 AV cable in my PS3 and it would be safe.

I cannot check at the moment because i don’t know where my PS2 cables and there is no point looking if the AV cable doesn’t work in the PS3.

Yes they are. For the sole reason that they believe people will use the better HDMI cable instead.
