Are there any drawbacks in using my Sony Vaio notebook on AC power without attaching the battery?

I mainly use it at home these days and I want to conserve the battery. It works fine on AC power but I want to confirm if there are any drawbacks. Secondly, the notebook goes into hibernation within a few minutes when the battery is not attached even though I have adjusted the settings. Why does that happen and how can I stop it from doing that.

Not at all! It goes into hibernation simply because of the untattached battery. I would just leave it attached.
