I have itunes and will continue to use my ipod but someone got me a sony MP3 walkman and I wanted to put some of my music onto the sony. Is it possible. Also, they offered a music drag and drop transfer option from itunes but I dont want to mess up my itunes for my ipod classic. Would it remove the files from my itunes?

iTunes music and video have DRM copyright protection, you can only play it on your computer or your iPod player. If you want to put them on other portable player such as Walkman, Zen, Zune, MP3/MP4 player, etc. You have to remove the DRM protection at first. I found a media converter can do that, it’s easy to use and works pretty well for me, you may download it for a try.

The music download from itunes is drm protected. in order to play it on non-apple mp3/mp4 players, you need to remove the drm and convert the protected music to drm free mp3 format. the easiest way is to burn an audio cd in itunes and rip it back as mp3 format.

For me, i always use m4p to mp3 converter to help me get the itunes protected music converted to mp3. since this m4p to mp3 converter utilizes the virtual cd burning tech, the conversion speed is very fast. and you can get the output music with the cd quality.

As the music in iTunes is encrypted with DRM, you cannot directly put it on any non-Apple MP3 player. The easiest way is:

    1. Insert a CD-R or CD-RW disc into your CD-ROM drive.
    2. Burn your playlist to make an audio CD.
    3. After the audio CD is successfully burned, insert the disc into your CD-ROM drive again. Then you can use iTunes to import the music tracks on the burned disc as MP3 files.

Or you can get some software to help you. I use TuneClone M4P to MP3 Converter ( http://www.tuneclone.com/m4p-to-mp3-converter.php ) to do this. Though not free, it is very well worth a try. It generates a virtual CD drive to help to remove the DRM element without having to waste actual CD’s.
