You don’t need a driver for a DV camcorder. It connects to a computer using IEEE-1394 interface cable (FireWire, iLink) and any video editing program that supports DV capture will work, even Windows Movie Maker and iMovie for Mac. Some DV cams also record still images to a memory card. Just use a card reader connected to your computer and access the images that way.

I am having problems uploading my videos from Sony Hybrid 2000x Camcorder to my Windows Movie Maker on my Acer Laptop W/ Vista. I use a usb port, but it will not read the connection from laptop to my Camera. How can I fix this problem? It worked good on my desktop but that is down atm.
Windows Movie Maker usually accept files in avi, wmv, mpg, asf formats, but Sony DV camcorder usually record videos in DV format that will not be supported by windows movie maker, therefore, u will need to convert to the proper file formats, and fortunately there is one application designed for u, have a try when available

Your cam uses IEEE 1394 interface (FireWire) cable connection from the cam to the computer. Your computer would need to have a FireWire port. If you are using a laptop, it may have a serial slot on it which would allow a FireWire card (see link 1). As for your desktop, you can buy and install a FireWire card (see link 2). It easy to do and they are very cheap. Of course you’ll need a FireWire cable.
You can use Windows Movie Maker or Mac iMovie to capture your video from the camera. Those programs are free and may be already on your computer.
I have a MacBook Pro and the firewire cable that connects to both my camera and my Mac perfectly but I can’t seem to upload anything from the camcorder to the computer, please help.
Is the camcorder in Play mode?
Is the MacBook Pro’s firewire port active?
Are you using iMovie or Final Cut – or some other video editing application to "Capture" the video?
