The reports regarding the very popular noise problem ? Does anyone know if Sony has given any kind of resolution or anything ? Anyone who experienced the problem got a permanent solution from SONY ?

If you are referring to the buzzing noise – there are several fixes. One is to open the Sound Recorder application. That will get rid of the buzzing. The other is to open the Sound applet from the control panel, select the recording tab. That will get rid of the buzzing sound as well. The most permanent solution, without leaving something open in the background -> from the recording tab, select the mic, and then select the properties button. Next select the listen tab, then choose the "Listen to this device" checkbox, finally choose "Digital Output" on the Playback through this device option. That seems to keep it from buzzing; and I haven’t noticed it affecting other things like skype.

Sony Notebook sound problem?

2010

I have a Sony notebook VGN-FZ240E and my sound only comes through headphones, but not through the notebook’s speakers. I know its a hardware problem because I troubleshooted and even formated my notebook, but the problem remains. What hardware do I need replacing? Is it a sound card or something?

Nah, if sound is coming out of your headphones, then it’s most likely the speakers themselves. Opening up the laptop will show you that you just have one or two speakers with wires running out from them that connect to the motherboard.

The speakers can be unscrewed and disconnected from the motherboard, and replaced by some used speakers that you can likely find on ebay.

If you don’t know how to disassemble your laptop, check Sony’s support website for your model number.

BTW, sound cards can’t be replaced in a laptop; they’re soldered to the motherboard. If the sound goes bad, the whole motherboard needs to go!
