I have just bought a Sony Reader. I have tons of books. Is there a simple way ,without having to re-purchase all my books, to transfer them to my computer?
When I am referring to my "books" I am referring to the books on the book shelf that I have collected over the years.

assuming you mean ebooks, just hook it up to your computer via a usb. go to "computer" and select the device. your files will be there somewhere.

Can Barnes & Noble ebooks be read on a Sony Reader 505?

I have a Sony Reader 505 and I came across a book I would like to buy but it is only available in ebook form at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Does anyone know if you can read B&N books on a Sony Reader?

Sorry, all ebook readers protect their own ebooks with DRM, so they cannot be read on one another. Barnes & Noble ebooks can only be read on the Nook, while Amazon ebooks can only be read on the Kindle. Same for Sony Reader, Sony ebooks can only be read on the Sony Reader.

I’ve given a detailed review about the most popular ebook readers (including the Sony Reader) in the market, in a previous answer here. Guess you’ll find interested:

Where on my Windows XP machine can I find where the books in my Sony Reader Library are stored?

I have a PRS-505 Sony Reader and need to find the folder on my Windows XP machine the Sony Reader Library stores the books in the library. I need to be able to back them up so that I can do a system restore. Thanks.

Lea

Do a search for them, using the Search function in the Start Menu. Either by the name of a book you have downloaded.

I would guess they would be in either: C:\My Documents or in C:\Program Files\Sony Reader

Or..

If you have forgotten the name of the files you can do a search based on the file extension…
In the Search box type: "*".file extension.

ie. if you’re looking for a certain .jpeg, but can’t remember the name of it, you can search to include all .jpeg files stored on your computer.. "*".jpeg

Quote ( " ) Asterisk ( * ) Quote ( " ) Period ( . ) file Extension (jpeg, exe, html, xls, etc. etc.)

My sister got a sony reader touch edition today for her birthday. I have lots of pdf files saved on my computer. How do I put them on the e-reader? Also, I’ve heard people complain about not being able to read pdf files on their sony readers, is that true? and if so how can I fix it.

Thanks in advance :)

Try this:

Barring that, you may need to convert the pdf to rich text format using an OCR program to make it work.

Can anyone tell me whether Sony reader supports copyrighted materials only? Or are there any better brand?

I want to buy an ebook reader. What is the best? I want a reader which supports all downloaded pdf materials. I mean even pirated books that are available on sites like gigapedia. What about PRS 300?
Thanks.

I think pirate books are PDF format that is not protected. It can be read by many ebook readers in the market, including Sony Reader, Amazon Kindle, etc. It is not recommended of course, as always.

I’ve given a comparison of the three most popular ebook readers right now in the market here. Sony Reader is one of them, but it is not the best I’ll say:

And recently Amazon has announced an update on their Kindle reader, to secure their market share:

Hope it helps :)
