I know that christmas is exciting enough for kids, but just wondered what i can do to make this christmas one that the kids will not forget.

I cant spend much money, but would really love to do something different!
    Any ideas?

    Thankyou in advance.

I got a small treasure type chest for my son , I put one of his pressie’s inside & covered over it with tissue paper & loads of chocolate coins , when he opened it , it looked like it was full of coins but was even better when he found his pressie at the bottom , choco coins can be cheap as well if you look around.

I always sprinkle glitter around my fireplace and make foot prints in it, my kids believe it is ‘magic flyin dust’

My mum used to let me and my sister ‘help’ her make place settings for the table. One year we used loo roll tubes, painted them red, then used pieces of card to make a face, and hat and stuck them on the top. Then all you need is cotton wool for a beard and a black felt tip and.or gold pen for buttons and a belt. Then cut a rectangular piece of card, and write on a name, and put them in everone’s placess before christmas dinner. Also, help them make the cake, and put out brandy and a mince pie for santa and a carrot for rudolph, then when they’re asleep, take a few bites and down the brandy! You could take them to a park or forest to collect pine cones, dip them in glue and glitter and with some ribbon, you have homemade tree decorations xx

    go to lapland?

in greenland, apparently Saint Nick is from there, maybe you can take them there?

unless they’re teenagers.. then being one, I’d still love to go there, but not to see him, just to go skiing or something

get them involved in the preparations, make your own decorations, glitter, paper and glue are’nt that expensive, make your own christmas puddings, and mince pies, go for a walk in the country and cut your own teasels to spray silver, and some nice twigs and holly to spray in pretty colours.

How about have them make the crackers? Use loo roll tubes and some crepe paper, very cheap, and stick it on, tie each end and get them to make a picture or something to put inside for each person.

We have little presents on the table instead of crackers, you could keep a present back if you can’t buy extra.

You could let them paint their bedroom windows. Use powder paint and use marker pens to draw and then paint the picture. This comes off with soapy water and baby wipes.

We always make all of our christmas cards. This doesn’t cost much, cut up old cards and magazines with christmas scenes and stick them on card. Tesco do a good range of cheap pom poms and glittery paper and it’s really reasonably priced. Early learning also do stuff like this. It’s about £1 or so a pack, you could buy one a week.

Let them wrap a present for each other as a surprise.

Go for an early morning walk, open a few presents and then go in the park and run off some of the excitement. It will make for a much happier day and they may even have a nap after lunch.

Let them do a bit towards lunch, helping wash veges or peel them, if they’re old enough.

Ooh, I have so many ideas I could go on all day. Have any of these been any use?

If you have more than two kids you can do a secret santa ( where they pick a nmae out of a hat then get that person a gift , but they cant get there own name). Then you could help them make the gift or give them like 5 -10 bucks to get a little barbie or whatever from the store. Then the day you exchange gifts you can bake cookies and have cocoa like a little christmas party and have christmas music!

i remember this one christmas…(i was like 6 or something) dad set up a camcorder in the living room and put a teatowl over it and to "secretly" record santa.

all you do then is wait for the kids to go to bed, put a suit on (santa suit) walk into the room put on an act and a voice, eat mince pies and so on then leave…the kids will be like.."WHERES THE PRESSIES!!!" thats where camera magic comes in..the miss’s turns the canera off as the leave the room, you lay out all the pressents and then turn it on for a few more seconds to make it look magical.. just make sure you show them the footage before actually taking them into the living room ;) that was my best christmas ever!

hi ,get them an advent calender also with a choccy behind the door ,you could take them carol singing or to a care home , the old folk would welcome some little voices singing to them ,,,make some Christmas cakes for their school fair , and some paper chains . also i buy my children blank cards and they colour them in , their friends always enjoy receiving them , the best part of Christmas apart from giving them presents , is decorating the tree , and the Christmas table , my children help me , they love it , Christmas doesn’t have to cost the earth , a little time spent with your nearest and dearest is much more memorable than spending lots of money on presents ,that will be broken and forgotten about after a few days , have a good one whatever you do anyway xxx peace

we bake cookies every year. The kids are 14 and 17 and still want to do it one weekend before Christmas. They have their own cookie cutters and recipe boxes. I did it with my mom and continued it with my kids. Also you can buy pretty dish towels and fill baskets of cookies for friends and neighbors :) attach the recipe of the cookies to the basket.

I let my kids hang up every Christmas thing they made at school, let them decorate the tree, bake cookies. We also bought some cheap flat wooden stars in various sizes. The kids painted them and covered them with glitter. We got a set of glitter pens for a buck at a dollar store. Find some Christmas printouts online that they can decorate. Just be creative. That’s what’s really important for developing minds. It will also give them something to take pride in.
