Did the success of the PS2 make Sony overconfident going into this next-gen war?

The PSP is on life support. Home is getting horrible reviews from gamers in my age bracket. The PS3 is still languishing in 3rd place in the next gen war. Do you think they took too much for granted and expected people to buy their system just because it had Sony written on it? That seems to be the case, considering the marketing blunders they have committed, particularly in the very beginning.

Well we first have to put in consideration the price of the consoles. The cheapest PS3 is like, $399? While the Wii is $249 and the "new" (and crappier version of xbox) is only a whopping $199. Most people in this world doesn’t have enough money in their pockets or purse to buy a PS3, and most people are not playstation "fanboys" and will take whatever is cheap and convenient: alas Xbox and Wii.

I don’t think that Sony is overconfident, i just think that they are not playing smart. These are hard economic times (well, in America), and most people will not choose a 400 dollar console over a 200 console especially with all the hype and "fanboy crap" of the 200 dollar console.

I really think Sony should make the PS3 with no USB jacks, Wired controllers, no flash drives, 20gb, No backwards compatibility, no built-in Wi-Fi……But KEEP blu-ray, the powerful engine and everything else, and sell the PS3 for $299. Xbox did that, and well, look at their sales.

Sony needs to do something dramatic and take a chance if they are going to go anywhere with their sales, and although PS3 exclusives are great games, it will hardly boost sales.

I don’t care about this stupid "console war", as long as i am enjoying my console i’m fine, and i used to have a 360 but i sold it back for a ps3 and love it, it hasn’t even broken down, not even once.

Sony has a right to be confident they sold a LOT with the ps2 but they still have to work hard to sell the ps3. No matter what anyone says playstation beats xbox anyday.

well i do remember the ps2 not being talked about that much untill about 2004 the problem is the psp is basically for younger people i would say age 12-15 i dont know anybody who is 18 or older who would bring there psp to school or something also something about the ps3 it lacks games everyday now im just like im sick of all these games and i just play cod4 world at war online seemed terrible due to the one shot bullet firing and other games were good like bioshock but we did get it a yr late all the new games i got i beat them and i dont even like the online play compared to before for example

    mirrors edge -terrible online
resistance 2 – wasnt narly as fun as the first one
socom confrontation- needs patch to be on top
little big planet- good but it takes forever to load
need for speed undercover- terrible online for some reason it slows down during the racing

    hopefully the upcoming games like

    mag
    uncharted 2
    street fighter iv
    resident evil 5
    cod modern warfare 2
    bioshock sea of dreams

will give the ps3 a better name
