Honestly, the … Honestly, the samsung nc10 is the better. I got both so i know what i’m saying. The sony vaio is stylish compare to the samsung (it even hurts you eyes after a time altought it zoom) but if you wish a powerful and fast working netbook, i will suggest to all to purchase SAMSUNG NC10.
In the video it was … In the video it was a size comparison. The CPU and graphics chip capabilities are very similar. However the Sony has a much higher screen resolution, has twice as much RAM, and is much lighter and smaller than the NC10.
BTW I did have an Acer One which is very similar to the NC10 in the video, but sold it when I got the Vaio P. Battery life on the Vaio is 4 hours, Acer was 90 minutes.
Acer One didn’t have DVD drive either, and getting movies on it was never a problem. NC10 has no DVD.
I think that you … I think that you don’t get it that Vaio P is not intended be used as primary and only computer.
DVD movies can always be ripped with another computer, and transferred over to the Vaio P via the network or USB sticks. That’s what I’ve done with the odd DVD I’ve borrowed. I even re-installed Windows from a USB stick, no need for a DVD drive here.
Usual source of movies for me is Itunes rentals or recording from the cable TV movie channels. Hence no real need for optical disks for my use.
Who needs a built … Who needs a built in DVD or CD drive in what is intended to be pocket sized secondary computer? Sony calls it a ‘lifestyle PC’
Having a CD/DVD drive in a primary computer yes that is a good idea. The Sony Vaio P is not intended to be used as a primary computer. Content and software can always been installed over a network, USB sticks, even an external drive if needed.
BTW last time I bought a CD or DVD was something like 8 years ago.
Linux support for … Linux support for the Poulsbo GMA 500 is very hit and miss at the moment. There is a driver but it appears to get broken with every kernel update. VESA does work, but it’s very slow, video is unusable with it.
The problem is that Poulsbo uses PowerVR SGX for the graphics, with a driver sourced from Tungsten Graphics. Rather than Intel doing everything in-house.
Windows support for GMA 500 has been bad as well, until the last few weeks, and even now is quite buggy.
Are you … Are you generalising about Vaios in general, or the one in the video? The Vaio in the video would have very great difficulty in reading CDs and DVDs, in fact it would be impossible without an external drive.
yes, sony vaio wont … yes, sony vaio wont ing read DVD-RW and hardly will accept CD-RW disks. to top that off problems with the ing intel bullshit pro wireless (centrino ) like wtf it wont read cds or dvds wireless problems . and im a tech head tried all the updates drivers etc pfft. sony sucks!
You can install … You can install Linux on it with Unetbootin, Jaunty Ubuntu has support for the pdb graphix driver, or failing that just use the standard VESA driver. You want speed, bang Linux on it!
Over all it looks … Over all it looks like an excellent notebook. i heard the battery lasts 4 hours, i guess it depends on what you’re doing. but there is a bigger battery you can buy for it.
I’ve just bought … I’ve just bought one, and this computer is really good, the battery last long enough for everithing, and it is almost fast, in general it’s a good computer, and you normally buy it and it comes with it’s internet, and monitor adapter, also the mouse is much better than the touch pad, I recommend you to buy one.

I have a P25G, Vaio P is not perfect because of two points.
Ethernet port is not on the system itself, but through a port replicator. Fail.
Need a cd/dvd burner to make recovery cd’s…. Why not offer an option to use USB stick. Fail.

It is a nice elegant laptop. Just a shame Sony ruin the initial experience with all the bundled crapware and demoware.
When it’s running a clean install of Windows 7 and just the applications one needs, it’s beautiful.
