My Sony DVD player used with Sony TV suddenly says ‘Can’t play this disc’ for all discs. Electric company switched out electrical boxes, after which it stopped working. I’m not sure what to do to get it working again. Any assistance will be appreciated.
sadly this is the question that would make me say go pick up a new DVD player… but if it cant read anything 2 things are the problems. the motherboard is bad or the popular laser lens is shifted or dirty you can try cleaning it. But if its just a plain dvd. not worth fixing 40 bucks get a new one. if have a HDTV get an UPCONVERT for 69 bucks or so and component cable. turn the upconvert on and have a 4times better pic..
but its either the lens or everything else. time for a new one.

Sounds like the motherboard has had a fatal shock or a power surge.
it’s not really worth getting repaired as new are so cheap. Maybe now is the time to upgrade to BlueRay?
