how could i buy a sony ericsson with just the phone so i can switch chips?

could i but a sony ericsson W580i at my local at&t store but just the phone. i broke the one i have and if my mom finds out im dead. im planning on just switching the phones and keeping the SIM chip. how much would that cost and can i even do that?

You mean keep the sim and related number? Yes sure you can do that. You may experience unlocking problems, but is worth taking a risk and there are unlock codes available anyway.
