How do I download Video from my Sony mini DV to my PC?

Sony usese iLink for it’s connections between PC’s and their camcorders. iLink is essentially a 4-pin Firewire connection, so if your computer has firewire, it’s very easy to get a iLink to iLink cable (for laptops) or iLink to 6-pin Firewire (for desktops). If you don’t have firewire, you can get a PCI card that will add it to your computer (or PCMCIA for laptops).

Another option is if your video card has input capabilities. If so, you can it analog (so you can use the mini cable to 3-RCA from your camer).

Once connected, you’ll need software to "capture" the video. Windows Movie Maker can do this, but it’s not the best software. I would suggest (on the low end) Premier Elements or Sony Vegas.

As already said, you can use the included USB cable, or use Firewire.

Firewire is optimal as it has a higher transfer speed, giving you crystal clear audio and video without flicer, interference, and skipping/lagging. It is by far, the best, easiest, and cheapest way to transfer video with the best results.

You can use an RCA hookup if your PC has a tuner card, but I would recommend sticking with the Firewire.
