How do I make my Sony Mini DV Camera detected by Windows Movie Maker?

I am using a regular USB cord but Windows Movie Maker is not detecting the camera. I need the best advice because my movie is due by Jan. 7, 2008!

I have a sony mini dv and mine needs to be connected with firewire to retrieve the DV video from the tape. If you want to use USB streaming you can do that with the camera too but the quality is not as good and I don't think Windows Movie Maker supports it.
