I read lots of bad reviews on the sony A350X dslr camera. would like to know. Is it a good camera. I am in the process of purchasing the camera. Should i look into the cannon line instead. I take a lot of pictures with low light and far away. I dont want to get stuck with a camera that doesnt work well.

It is o.k. but I would recommend Canon or Nikon. You have a much better selection of top quality lenses than with Sony. The other thing is that Canon and Nikon are camera companies. This is all they do and are the choice of pros and serious amateurs.
Go to a good camera store and play around with the different models and see which feels best to you.

As far as low light photography this depends on the lens and the ISO used. The camera body wont make a difference.
The best lenses will have the lowest F number. F1.4, F1.8 or F2.8. These lenses are very expensive though.
The higher the ISO the more sensitive to light the sensor is. In low light you will have to boost the ISO in order to get a fast enough shutter speed.
You will also need a tripod

Some people love this camera, other people hate it. Often people hate their cameras because their pictures come out terrible and they blame the camera… but they fail to realize that it isn’t the camera, it’s that they don’t know how to properly use the camera.

However, I do highly recommend you get a Canon instead. Canon has been around a lot longer, therefore you have a better variety of lenses, flashes, and other accessories.

Since this is your first DSLR, I suggest you stick with entry-level DSLR’s. I recommend the Canon Rebel XTi. Most of the students at the Art Institute use this camera, and the price has dropped a lot recently. I’ve had this camera for a few years now and haven’t had any problems with it.

My best suggestion is for YOU to go to a camera store and play around with all the cameras they have there. See which camera YOU are most comfortable with. This is going to be YOUr camera, not our’s, so make sure YOU are happy with it.

Camera stores usually have higher prices than online, so do make sure you price it online before you buy it. Try Adorama, B&H, and Amazon. I don’t recommend E-bay.

    Good luck :o )

Sony bought out minolta’s camera division about 5 yrs ago. There is alot of Minolta technology and know how in those cameras. Now saying that, Sony Has been in the imaging buisiness for years (note: Camcorders) so at least they know how to make some edecent optics (not great optics, but decent ones). mixed Sonys marketing with some know how, with minoltas know how and they’ll do fine.

I still like a true camera guy though like Pentax, Nikon, olympus and Canon
