I would like to get a sony playstation 3 on the day it comes out. Walmart will start selling them at midnight. How early will I have to get there in order to get one? I live in a town of about 40,000 people.
Sony is only going to have around 400,000 units in the US (you are in the US, right?) at launch. If you don't have one preordered already, you'll have to get one off the shelf, and with such a shortage of units I don't know that many palces will be selling them like that. You're probably not going to get one at launch.
Which is not such a bad thing. Launch units are much more likely to have hardware problems and breakdowns. It would be a better idea to wait a few months, truthfully.
Whatever you do, don't get suckered into paying an inflated price to the inevitable jerks who buy the systems and sell them online for a profit.

very very very early you might want to call ahead and see if you can put one on reserve or special order then you will be one of the first ones to get one otherwise good luck because especially in a town that size walmart will be jam packed

hahaha i live in a town of rich 40,000 people so it was terrible getting my xbox360. do you have a job? take 2 days off….i would say 2 days ahead or at LEAST 1 because there are way more playstation fans then xbox 360. or you could drive by like twice a day a few days before and see if theres a line yet. if there is, get your ass in that line with them.
good luck boy

I would try to preorder one if possible, from gamestop maybe.
To be at Wal-Mart I would be there as soon as possible. If it goes on sale at midnight I would want to be there at least a few hours beforehand, but maybe it's not that hard. I was working at Wal-Mart the day the PS2 came out and that night they had them in the middle of the aisle still on the palates in boxes with just a "SCPH-30000" or whatever that code is on them. You can't take them from there, but you can keep an eye on them if they're sitting out like that.
I also put an Xbox on layaway while I was working there because they announced it in the store that they had some. I got it on layaway but I ended up refunding it because I didn't have the money (ended up buying a ps2).
Just go to Wal-Mart and hang out there forever. If there's some kind of line going on, or some organization to the process find out from one of the associates how it's going to go down.

Very early. There aren't any more preorders being accepted for the PS3, so camping out at a wal-mart or someplace like that will be your best bet. I would get there pretty early if I were you, like a day early. Sony fans are crazy.
