The tape was given by a family member, Can I get a device that will play it or can I take it to cvs or wallgreen to have it converted??
Yes I think it is possible to watch your Sony Mini DV Cassette Tape without the video camera. Walgreen's or even Walmart can convert the video to a DVD. Last time I checked at Walmart it was $20. I know that there is another way to watch tapes without a machine but you will need to check if there is one for this kind of tape. It looks like a VHS tape and you just snap the DV Tape into the middle of it then you insert the VHS tape into the VCR and it will play the movie. Check this out at a appliance store like Best Buy. Good Luck!!!

There is NO ADAPTER that will accept a MiniDV tape and allow you to play it in a VCR – the tapes are totally incompatable. You used to be able to do it with the old mini VHS tapes but it is impossible to do it with digital tapes.
There are many companies both instore and online who will transfer the tape to a DVD for you – do a 'Google' search for ones in your area.
Or maybe you could just borrow a camcorder from a friend for a short while.
