Since you did not tell us which model camcorder, it is a challenge to know for sure – but likely not. Record the audio (to the tape) with the lens cap on.

You will not be able to turn off you video, but when you capture the video you should be able to capture only the audio or once the video is captured export only the audio. Or in windows movie maker import your video and then put the video into the audio/music timeline, then export as high quality audio or what ever setting you want. Just done it and its fine
