Is using Firewire on a Sony DCR-TRV740 different from using it on the other DV cams?

Hello guys! i have this Sony DCR-TRV740 camera. It’s pretty old: it uses an 8mm tape.

I’m wondering if transferring the video from this type of camera is any different from the cameras today that use mini-DV tapes. If yes, how? Or do I simply plug the Firewire just like that?

Thanks to everyone who will answer this question! =D

The DCR-TRV740 is a Digital8 tape based camcorder.

Transferring video to/from the DCR-TRV740 to a computer using firewire is the same as transferring video to/from a miniDV tape based camcorder.

You can get the camcorder’s manual here

It’s not exactly the same, when using firewire you can control the vcr functions of the camcorder to make it easier to record.
