Paul DV Vlog 1 – What I like/dislike about Adobe Premiere CS4

Jul 04
2009

This is Vlog #1 from Paul Del Vecchio. It covers features of Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 that I like and dislike. I compare Premiere CS4 to Avid Media Composer and Sony Vegas. I cover track targeting, sequence settings, moving tracks, and moving clips in the timeline.

i use adobe premier cs4 and i have a problem with my videos.
Everytime i export them out into AVI or anykind of format my video won’t run smoothly.
When i play my video, the movement of the person would flicker and stutter and jerks a lot.
Like the person is moving like a robot. o.O
beside that it makes me dizzy wen watching the video that i exported it out. Idk if it’s my computer that causes the video to not run smoothly or it’s the programs……i need help.

tip: keep recording even if you make a mistake, repeat what where you have made the mistake, and then edit it out later :-)

i have pro CS4, and everytime i open it up on the bottom right hand corner, it will say “generating peak for file 123.avi…”
and once it gets to 100% it wont let me do anything, and my computer freezes.

I just upgraded from Premiere CS3 to CS4. I am now experiencing a problem with the playback of HDV footage from my Canon HV-30. I found many forums with people complaining about this CS4 Problem but still no solution.

Yes I have updated my graphics card drivers.

They all pretty much do the same thing. There is no “best” one unfortunately. It’s really hard to say. It’s really a matter of preference but the two most commonly used are Final Cut Studio and Avid. I love Premiere also but Final Cut and Avid are the two most used ones (I believe) when it comes to professional work. It’s just a matter of preference.

Great video, but just wondering. What would you say is the best editing software out there right now? I have pinnacle right now and I want to upgrade to a more powerful software. Price is no object. Thanks!

Premiere isn’t as hard as you might think though. It’s got some really nice tools too. I agree with you though, Vegas isn’t the best looking app out there, but it’s powerful and it’s pretty sweet.

    mp4s are basically …
mp4s are basically a delivery format and Premiere, I dont think, supports it as an editing format. You’ll probably have to import it into another program and convert it to a supported format. It recognizes the audio probably because it’s Quicktime based or an audio format it supports, but not the video.

  15. Silvyre says:

    Every time I import …
Every time I import an mp4 movie into premiere, it imports it as an audio file. Can anyone tell me why it does this, and how I can fix it? Thanks

  16. pdelvecchio814 says:

    That’s a difficult …
That’s a difficult question. I use After Effects heavily so it’s easier to get my Premiere stuff into AE. For that reason alone, I’d say Premiere. Avid seems to be more stable though.

I sent you a DM about this. I’m not really sure what’s happening here. Sorry I can’t be of more help, but mine pastes it to the track selected. Not really sure what’s up.

    I have this problem …
I have this problem with Adobe Premiere CS4 – It should be exactly the way it’s shown in this video – When you want to copy clips from track to track like from Track 1 to Track 4 you should just unselect Track 1 and select Track 4 and then Paste… but for some reason it doesn’t work on my CS4 and it ignores what I had selected. It just pastes on the same track whatever I do. I am stuck. Help? :)

..it’s not a big deal because I’m able to do it now as the program is, but it just takes a little bit longer. At any rate, they are small things but I feel they would make Premiere better. As Premiere is right now, it’s my favorite editor of them all so either way, I love Premiere CS4! Anyways, you rock man! Your tutorials and advice on the Cow are awesome! Keep in touch!

Hey Jon! I see you …
Hey Jon! I see you on Creative Cow all the time! The reason I thought track targeting for dragging and dropping would be nice is because it shows you how long the media is in the timeline, so you know exactly where the in and out points are as opposed to INSERT and OVERLAY. It’s not a big deal, b/c you can do it with INSERT and OVERLAY, but I thought it would be kinda nice to see where you’re dropping stuff. The audio lineup method is nice, even though it’s a few extra steps, but..

Great Tutorial. I’d like to mention a couple of things. The way the drag and drop to timeline with Track Targetting in PPro would be wasted as an option if you drag and drop into timeline the same as using the shortcuts , and . or dragging into the program monitor. Moving Audio tracks is a nice idea. Lining up your image or audio spike can be done with setting a marker and that would snap to the CTI. Overall some really positive info on PPro. Nice bloopers. – JOn :)
