Playstation 3: the Blu-ray Player
2009
All around, the Sony Playstation 3 is a complete home entertainment system for your entire household. With the system, you will be able to play Playstation, Playstation 2, and of course Playstation 3 games. Besides being able to play games that date back generations, to games that are the most technologically advance with 1080p high-definition, the Playstation 3 serves another function and another purpose. A purpose that’s worth its weight in gold.
The Sony Playstation 3 is a Blu-ray Player!
But how does the Playstation 3 compare to a standard Blu-ray Player?
The Playstation 3, compared to a stand alone Blu-ray player, has one massive advantage. Price! A standard Blu-ray player can cost anywhere around $850 dollars to a whopping $1,300 dollars. It is obvious that the average person won’t be able to afford such a steep price. Here is one reason why the Playstation 3 comes into its own. Priced at $499 dollars to $599 dollars, the Playstation 3 is by far the cheapest and most affordable Blu-ray player to date. Allowing a boarder audience to enjoy high-definition Blu-ray movies from the comfort of their homes.
What about quality, functionality and is the Playstation 3 easy to use as a Blu-ray Player?
With some of the more state of the art technologies, the Playstation 3 could be considered better than all the Blu-ray players on the market today. From the moment you turn it on and insert a Blu-ray movie via the front loading disc drive, you will be blown away and surprised at the picture quality this little box provides. On average the Playstation 3 turns on and loads up a Blu-ray movie in about 22 seconds, which is highly impressive. Using the wireless gaming control or the soon to be released Playstation 3 remote controller, navigating throughout the Blu-ray movies enjoyable and easy to learn.
Playstation 3: The Blu-ray Player
Sony has made a wise decision to integrate Blu-ray into their system. The Playstation 3 is hundreds of dollars cheaper even if you decide to purchase Sony Playstation 3 remote also, which is estimated to cost around $30 dollars. Even before the release of the Playstation 3, Blu-ray movie sales continued to increase as time goes on. Playstation 3 is the total package, so go out and get one.

A Blu-ray player is a Blu-ray player…
With the $400 PS3 coming out there is no cheaper Blu-ray in the world.
You’ll also have the option for playing a game or 2 and surf the net with the PS3.

The PS3 works great as a Blu-Ray player and it will also upconvert 480p DVDs to 720p or 1080p now. It also functions as a media center and there is more media functionality coming with future firmware updates, according to Sony’s press releases.

The reviews in magazines and on-line seem to say that the PS3 is one of the better BD machines and stand-alone players are often compared to the PS3 in terms of quality.
I like the idea of the PS3 because there is a lot of horsepower in that box (which is why it is a superior BluRay player), and you get a DVD & Game system in 1 box.
With respect to Joseph – Sony is one of the arguments against the PS3. Remember they were behind the "root-kit" virus that infect your PC if you put an audio CD into your computer.

The PS3 is the best Blu-ray player available right now. Only for the fact that it is the easiest to get firmware updates for. There are some Blu-ray discs available that have features that you can only play on the PS3. It is very easy to use, and set up. Plus you can get a "normal" remote for it if you don’t like using a controller.

PlayStation 3 for several reasons.
If you like to play games than the PS3 does and you can surf the net through a Sony-developed internet browser. The browser is very fast to. The PS3 also has built in Wi-Fi. Many reviewers say that the PS3 is one of the best Hi-Def players on the market including all HD DVD players and Blu-Ray players. It also supports normal 1080p and the latest 1.3 HDMI. It also has ports for ethernet and optical audio.
This is important because an ethernet is not on many Blu-Ray players, and in the future a ethernet connection will be needed to play the interactive features. But the PS3 will be able to when Profile 2.0 becomes mandatory. Also, the current Blu-Ray players do not support Profile 1.1, which the PS3 may soon be able to support thorugh a firmware upgrade.
