After 9 months of great work the camcorder has developed a little problem and it seems to be related to the swivel action on the miniview display. When I spin the display around and lay it down flat on the camera, the problem stops. But it’s very hard to record while it’s going on and this video shows how the problem can be anoying to record with.

same thing happened to me. Then after it did that it went all purple and then stopped working all together. its out of warranty so im out 200 bux. thanks sony

i had the exact same problem, i got some software from my birthday called Magix movie edit pro 14 plus. it works with this camera and you can do all sorts of effects windows movie maker cant do.

**UPDATE** 4-10-2009, I now edit the mpeg footage with Adobe Premiere. You can import MPEG Footage directly into it. It works great.

omg! the same thing …
omg! the same thing happens with my dcr-sr42!!! i used to do it a lot, but now the screen is just white. so i got a new camera, a vixa hg20(highly recommended) because the caust of repair is as mush as a new camera! bull! would you happen to know how to fix it? i cant even get the videos off the camera because i cant select computer!

i don’t edit the …
i don’t edit the mpeg footage from the camera directly in windows movie maker. I convert it all first with “MPEG StreamClip” it’s free software you can google it. I convert all the files to avi and then they can be used in Windows Movie Maker. Actually the files that come off the camera do work with Windows movie maker but not recommended. Windows movie maker does not prefer MPEG files to start with basically.

hi PuertoRicoFilms – my sony camcorder is the DCR-SR55 hard disc Handycam, and the problem I’ve got is that it’s incompatible with Windows Movie Maker software. Have you come across this problem? Hope to hear from you!

I called SONY, they had me ship it to a local spot. They fixed it and had it back to me very fast within the same week. It was the flex wire between the screen and the camera. I still use it. I love it!

the shoe is not a hot shoe. so you would need a light that has it’s own battery power.

OMG I have the exact same camera and problem its soooooooo annoying any way I took it to some sony store and they fixed it they said the problem was that moisture got in it even though I never used it in the rain or near water you might just want to take it to future shop or somthing thats what I did and they told me this sony store so ya good luck
