This is my second digital camera. I moved up from an Olympus Camedia C-3000 (3.3 megapixel, 3X optical zoom) that I used for the past 5 years. After researching several models, I went shopping for the Sony DSC-H1 (5 megapixel) or the H2 (6 megapixel) and walked out of the store with the new H5, and I didn't spend that much extra.
The main features I wanted were more megapixels and optical zoom. This camera has both (7.2 megapixels and 12X optical zoom). And with the Super Steady Shot image stabilization feature, I can use all of the 12X zoom and still get clear pictures without the use of a tripod. The camera is packed with a ton of features and preset scene selections that are clearly displayed on the large 3" LCD screen (that's right, I said 3" screen). It's huge!
There are a few minor things that could be better, for instance, battery life. It comes with 2-AA rechargeable Ni-MH batteries. I went through 3 sets of these rechargeable batteries during a weekend wedding and reception. Since switching to Lithium photocell batteries, I'm much happier with the battery life. I wish they could have figured out a way to get four AA batteries in the camera instead of two.
Another feature that could be improved is the Cybershot Viewer software. It is a very stripped down version with minimal features. I'm sure I'll be buying something better with more features (any suggestions?).
The last feature that could be improved is more of a pet peave. There is a button on the back of the camera that lets you quickly change the flash from auto, on, off or slow synchro. For some reason, red eye reduction is not a quick selection option. It is buried deep in the menu. However, once red-eye is set, it stays set even if the camera is turned off and back on.
Overall, I love this camera and consider it a great buy. I highly recommend it.
Pro : 3" LCD Screen, 7.2 Megapixel, 12X Optical, Super Steady Shot
Con : Battery life and the Cybershot Viewer Software

All-in-all, the Cyber-shot DSC-H5 is a very good ultra zoom camera, and one that I can recommend.
Pro : Very good photo quality. 12X optical zoom lens. 3.0-inch LCD display
Con : Noise goes up while saturation goes down at ISO 800/1000 settings

This camera performs great. I purchased a 2GB memory card which allows me about 570 photos on the highest quality setting, as well as long movie record times. Shutter lag can be anoying if you are constantly trying to take rapid photos. I purchased extra batteries, Nickel Metal Hydride, and this effectively resolves the short battery life since Sony only provides two batteries. Everyone raves about the quality of the photos and the movies. In summary, even with the cons, I highly recommend the Sony DSC-H5 camera.
Pro : Large LCD screen, crisp zoom, excellent movie, outstanding photos, 7.2 Mega pixels
Con : Some shutter lag, short battery life

I purchased this camera to take with us on our honeymoon to the beach and also as a long term investment. It was a tough decision between the H2 and H5, but now that I have had it for a few months I am glad we got the H5. The bigger screen, even though only 1 inch, makes a tremendous difference on the ease of use. Also the higher res is apparent when comparing with other cameras. The pictures that I was able to capture on our trip were fantastic and the colors were amazing, I did use a polarizing filter on most. Of course a good post production software is helpful but if you do your homework and set the parameters for each shot correctly you shouldnt have to do much. I should get the add-on zoom lense in the next couple of days so we will see how that works as well. Not that you really need it with a 12x zoom but of course I want more. Absolutely great buy!!
Pro : Overall a great camera for almost any situation for an amateur or someone like me that actually likes to use the program functions. After reading a bit about basic photography I was very easily able to utilize the functions that this camera provides. I would highly suggest carrying a tripod at all times because even with the steady shot function activated you will still get some blurring in low light situations. Other than that I feel that this is a great camera to take to a ballgame or when you get the creative urge there are a lot of fun things you can do.
Con : Sometimes difficult to get the focus correct on long shots and it does get a bit noisy over 400 ISO.

Everything about this camera says "Professional". At about less than half the cost of an entry level Dslr the results from the H5 are very similar without the hassle of fumbling around changing lenses. The manual mode of this camera offers in depth control over all aspects of shot making. It feels solid (unlike similar cameras such as the Canon S3 iS which handles like a tiny little toy)…it's metal tripod mount is just one example of how well built the H5 is.
The H5 is easy to use as a point and shoot in Auto mode, but incredibly powerful and advanced from those who wish to learn in depth photographic techniques in it's manual and A or S modes. At full 7.2 megapixel resolution it's shots are crisp and highly detailed. No regrets at all buying the H5 – this may be the last digital camera I ever need to buy!
Pro : 3" screen, excellent image quality, 12x zoom
Con : No hot shoe or manual zoom

Great Camera. I actually like this better than the canon IS. Basically the user has almost the same ability to adjust as an SLR. Very versatile.
Pro : Great Photos/ease of use
Con : Shutter Lag/Noise on ISO setting

Excelent for now and for a long time. Excelent movie and very good Picture. Very good fast zoom objectiv with F2,8(min zoom 35mm) to 3,7(max zoom 400 mm). Shooter 30" to 1/1000 '. Large flash capacity. Movie vith soun can competit with my sony hand DV camera. Fast turn on(that is very inportant on travel). On 2M pictures(possible print 10x15cm) you have smart digital zoom lens zoom up to 22. And low power consumption. I think that is semi profesional camera for hoby price.
Pro : excellent
Con : excellent

I have owned a few Sony's I love all of them. Each one is an upgrade from the next. Newer and better features and many more options to control what your doing. The only draw back that I have seen is that the auto focus when pushing the button half down goes bad. This is apparently a problem with the H2 on up. Overall I love the zoom and quality of pics.
Pro : Nice high quality pics
Con : auto fucus button

Excellent digital camera. Pictures turn out great. Even while moving. Not blurry, it takes some time to figure out what the functions can all do but it's fun learning.
Very solid camera. Good quality. vibrant colors.
Pro : Easy to use, looks great, many functions,
Con : Batteries go fast!
