Overall the w100 is a winner!!! I'm a Canon 350D user and have tried the Sony N1 since my parents have it, and I must say that I would choose the W100 over it in a heartbeat. Before purchasing this cam, I tried out all the cybershot cameras, and a few canons. It took me a few hours to finally decide that the w100 is the ONE for me. These were the reasons why I chose the w100…First I needed a camera that still has a viewfinder, since I am so used to taking shots with my Digital SLR, I am already quite used to it. Also, when under bright sunlight, it is quite difficult to rely on the 2.5 inch screen when taking photos. I like the manual options that are available compared to the other Sony Cybershot point and shoot digicams that I tried. Canon might have an edge here. I rarely use the AUTO features of the W100, and sofar I am impressed with the results I've gotten with the manual features. The Macro Mode is cool, but I think the T9 and T30 has better magnifying capabilities. Battery life is pretty good. Flash power is better than the rest, although red eye is still a problem even when the red eye reduction mode is turned on. Lens is great at F2.8 Aperture, not to mention its a Carl Zeiss make. ISO at 1250 but I must say picture quality deteriorates at this range, noise is too visible here. Realistically it is only at ISO 800 wherein the noise is not too noticeable. Pound for pound it's a good Low light Camera. This is where the w100 shines, it is priced lower compared to the T30 (7.1 megapixel) and the N1 (8.1 megapixel) cybershot counterparts. This is why I say the w100 is an overall winner… Try one and I guarantee you won't be disappointed with this pocket rocket camera.
Pro : Carl Zeiss Lesns, Has a viewfinder, Manages to have a Image Stabilizer when the flash is on, Large internal memory (64mb), 8.1 Megapixel, High ISO Sensitivity(1250), F-stop at 2.8, Has some nice manual features, Nice Flash power, Good Battery life, Size is not the smallest, but is still compact and portable, nice picture quality even at 800 ISO.
Con : doesn't have a lot of auto setting features compared to the N1 like fireworks, etc., is a little bulky compared to the T-series cybershot models, lacks accesories for the lens compared to the other W series cams, cheap flimsy cover for the batt and card, Lack of manual Auto white balance when the flash is on. AWB only works when the flash is off, Red Eye problem

I bought this camera, and it was my first digital camera. It was great, with 8.0 mega pixels the image quality were great, great quality everything was fine. Until one day turned on my camera, attempting to take a picture. The screen went black and read "Access". The lens zoomed in and out repeatedly, until after 2 min, the screen read "turn off and on again" I tried it, but the same problem occured. I tried to return it, but there was nobody to say what the problem was and I had not bought the warrenty.I had never dropped or abused the camera. I am currently waiting to replace my camera…I misght even buy the same one, it was so good, i just wish I had paid an extra 40 $ for the warrenty.
Pro : great quality, long battery life, good size
Con : flimsy battery cover, not too many features, LENS PROBLEM!!

I bought this camera a few weeks ago and have taken in access of 300 pics. The image quality is superior to even the two 35 mm SLR that I own. I found quickly that this camera is extremely easy to use, that is: fast out of the pocket, controls at the finger tips, ease of use, no worries about image stability, and no worries about light. I did notice a little red eye with some of the pics, especially in extreme low light conditions but nothing that my photo software could not fix. I also noticed that the shutter does lag a bit but not nearly as much as some of the Cannons I have tried. Because the camera is so small and light I found myself being extra careful of handling or even dropping. But here is where I put it to the true test at my expense and to eliminate my fear of mishandling. I dropped it on purpose from a height of 4 feet onto a double layered thin blanket I laid on the floor and it did not affect it in any way. Still works fantastic. Cannot say enough about this little gem. Highly recommend! I have not had to call tech support so I cannot give any kind of comment.
    Pro : All around excellent!!
    Con : No problems yet

    - semi-manual (want to learn about exposure?).
    - nice battery life.
    - 64 Mb internal memory
    - 6 m. flash range
    - hight sensivity (ISO) for low light pictures (cityscapes, no-flash pics)
    - price

    CONS:
    - flimsy battery/stick door
    - no accessories (yet)
    Pro : small & complete
    Con : no accesories

I was on sites reviewing pictures for a High Quality display, print, view and store pictures for the future. 4 Meg's now to low in quality for me that I have. I want that fine detail.

So I picked went to buy a pick of 2 of them on line then choose the one I like. I reviewed pictures and the best over all that I reviewed all week searching. $400.00 dollars they cost. Too much!

I ended up with this camera Sony DSC-W100 at a lower cost 8.1 Meg's I remembered the Sony's were good in the reviews for picture detail.

When I reviewed this camera comparing the pictures with the ones I was going to buy. This is way better in quality, detail and color pictures then the ones I was reviewing. You can see things the ones was not showing. Very happy with this camera and size. Its very fast to. Review the pictures see for yourself!

Cost is nice with Meg a pic's going higher everyday.
Pro : Hi Quality Pictures and Movies
    Con : None

If you are looking for large print quality pictures, this is the camera for you. Prints crystal clear. Pictures are definitely worth a lot and you can't go back in time to take them. Price is a little high for my taste but compared to non digital cameras of the past this thing rocks! You can print 8×10's all day long with professional photography studio results and since the resolution is so high, it makes photo enhancing a breeze (especially for super small details). I highly recommend sitting down and thoroughly reading through the manual before just shooting away. This camera does not have a very friendly beginner user interface. If you know a thing or two about how to use settings like EV+/-, this camera will be a great for you for a long time to come. Once again if you do not know much about digital photography this camera can be very frustrating and you probably would find it disappointing long before learning how to use it correctly.
Pro : Pretty much everything is great.
    Con : No Time/Date Stamp

I have owned many digital point and shoot cameras, including others in the Sony DSC line. I absolutely adored my last camera, the Sony DSC P200. When I lost it, I was absolutely crushed – even more so when I rushed to replace it and found out that they weren't selling it anymore. I got the next closest thing I could find – the W100 – and spent the next several days griping about how it wasn't as good. Mostly because I REALLY disliked where the zoom and playback buttons were located, and because it didn't have as many auto settings – like for taking pics of fireworks – as the P200.

Then….I started taking pictures. And they truly took my breath away. I've never seen such good quality pictures from a point and shoot camera. I also have a digital SLR camera – a Canon Rebel XTi – and this little point and shoot rivals it on nearly every level. As others have said, the image quality does deteriorate at higher ISO levels (I wouldn't recommend using the ISO auto setting, for instance), but that is the case for nearly every camera, film or digital. The quality of the videos is also good, and it picks up the sound quite nicely.

Second to the gorgeous pictures this camera takes is the picture-saving internal memory it has! I would often discover with my old camera that I had accidentally left my memory card in my laptop after transferring pics, and couldn't capture the moment. With this one, if there's no memory card, it stores the pictures on it's internal memory. This has saved me more than once.

It's a tiny bit more advanced, perhaps, than other point and shoot cameras, as it doesn't have quite as many auto settings – rather, it gives the user a lot of control. It still has some, though, including the ever-popular "full auto" setting, so even a novice user can still get great pictures out of it.

The LCD screen is big and plenty bright, and the camera's small size means I can carry it with me everywhere I go – and I do. Everywhere!

I've gotten over the "zoom" button placement, and have no issues iwth it. However, the "playback" button continues to irritate me with its placement. On the P200, it was easily accessible with your thumb (it pretty much fell right under where your thumb was during normal picture taking), and you could quickly review the pictures you'd just taken. Here, it's still accessible, but you have to move your thumb a bit more. It's a minor thing and probably wouldn't bother anyone who hadn't had the luxury of perfect playback button placement on other cameras.

The battery cover does have a tendency to pop open while in my purse – note that it wouldn't do this if I kept it safe in a camera bag, so it's really a non-issue to people who take better care of their cameras.

I originally didn't like the finish on the casing of the camerea – it has kind of a plaid textured finish to it – but it's grown on me, as it hids those nicks and scrapes that a well-used camerea inevitably falls prey to.

I would recommend this camera to absolutely anyone looking for a point-and-shoot digital camera. I'd give it a 9.5/10!
Pro : Beautiful pictures, compact size, lots of manual features and controls, easy to use menus, big, bright LCD screen, good video quality, PLUS internal memory!
Con : Battery cover sometimes opens (keep it in a camera bag to prevent this), grainy at high ISO speeds (this will happen with virtually every camera out there, both film and digital), less "scene options" (i.e. no fireworks setting) somewhat awkward button placement

    8.1 Megapixel Super HAD™ CCD:
Higher megapixels gives you more detail and definition for large prints and cropping in on your subject. Sony’s advanced Super HAD (Hole Accumulated Diode) CCD design allows more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing noise.

    Large 2.5"1 LCD Screen:

The DSC-W100 has a bright 2.5"1 LCD screen for setting up and viewing images — with a one touch "Play" button that makes it quick and easy to view your photos.

    Simple Controls, Function Guide:

User-friendly controls and simple on-screen Function Guide text/icon display help you set up camera functions — and you’ ll have greater creative freedom to adjust color mode (including “Natural” for subtle colors and “Rich” for more intense colors), sensitivity, brightness and image size.

    High Sensitivity Mode:
A new High Sensitivity Mode (ISO 1250) allows you to shoot with great results in low-light conditions — and Sony’s original Clear RAW NR™ (Noise Reduction) image processing technology helps suppress the color noise that can accompany high-sensitivity shooting.

    Carl Zeiss® 3X Optical/2X Digital Zoom/6X Total Zoom:

3X Optical Zoom helps the DSC-W50 bring distant subjects closer and lets you frame shots for better composition; Sony’s precision 2X Digital Zoom provides an additional 2X magnification to zoom in close without jagged edges.

    Stamina® Battery Power:
With its powerful Lithium Ion rechargeable battery, the DSC-W100 can capture up to 360 images2 — enough for a week of shooting. The compact BC-CSG Battery Charger is also supplied for battery recharging on the go.

    15X Smart Zoom™ Feature:
Sony's Smart Zoom feature lets you magnify your subject beyond the 3x optical zoom – to 3.8x (5MP), 4.8x (3MP), even 15x (VGA). By intelligently cropping into the central portion of the scene, it avoids the image distortion of other digital zooms.

    Capture Images In-Camera:
With 64 MB Internal Memory, the DSC-W100 allows you to shoot without a flash memory card –then transfer your images to optional Memory Stick Duo™ media, upload to your computer or make prints on your digital printer.

    Memory Stick Duo™ Media:
The DSC-W100 has a built-in slot for optional Memory Stick Duo™ or higher-capacity Memory Stick PRO Duo™ media — the ultra compact media for shooting, storing and sharing your photo images.
