A couple years ago I purchased my first digital camera and after a time, found the long shutter lag to be annoying. I decided to purchase a new digital camera in the hope of taking better spontaneous pictures of my kids. I did the research and read how other people found the shutter lag to be minimal on the Sony DSC-W1. I also liked the large display. I decided that the Sony was for me. By the time I got around to making the purchase, the DSC-W5 had been released so I bought it instead of the W1.
As I said, my reason for changing digital cameras was to get better pictures of my kids. After using the DSC-W5 for a couple months, I find it very difficult to take a picture of my kids that isn't blurry. While it's true that my kids are in constant motion, I can only seem to take a sharp image in the brightest sunlight. I even set the camera to always use the flash (which increases shutter lag, the problem I was trying to get away from) and I still find that any small movement of either the camera or the subject causes the image to come out blurred. I rarely had that problem with my older digital camera (an Olympus C-4000). With the Sony, I seem to have to take dozens of pictures so I can be sure of getting a few that are not blurred. It seemed like a great camera, but I have decided to go back to the place of purchase to try to recoupe some money and try another camera. If you plan to take pictures of subjects that are moving at all or don't want to drag a tripod around with you to steady the camera, I would recommend that you do not buy the DSC-W5.
Pro : Small size, large display, loaded w/features
Con : Difficult to take a blur-free photo

The Carl Zeiss lens is the ticket with this camera, giving you crisp detail and vivid true color. MPEG feature is great for on the spot video!! Large back screen for viewing is fantastic!! I used this camera in the jungles of the Philippines to capture breath taking pics, just using it with the auto mode selection!!
I bought this camera on a whim for a back-up and now using it all the time.

This was my first camera. It is a great camera for the begginers who are looking for a smaller camera that can fit in your pocket but has enough punch to make proffesional looking large prints. It is very durable seeing how I have dropped mine multiple times and it still keeps on kicken. The versatility is great especially for a beginner as you begin to explore what types of photography you are interested in. The many features that are included are extremely easy to use and are extremely useful when you are discovering different aspects of photography. This is a five star piece of equipment that will compiment any photographer's creative eye.
Pro : Robust, durable, easy to use and great for many situations.
Con : None that I have found.

My co-worker just got this camera as a gift and I helped her learn the features. The screen was a nice size and really clear. The size is perfect, especially for a cute clutch bag ladies! This is a good choice for a digital camera…I'm considering picking one up myself. I hear Bestbuy has a good deal on the pricing.
Pro : A great first digital camera
Con : Kinda hard to hold, I suggest using the wrist strap

I love this camera, actually. It's nice to to have a cheap point and shoot with some manual features. You get a decent lens, a big display, and you don't have to be worried about pointing it out a window, shooting from a bike, or chucking it at a raging attacker. It's a great value. It's surprisingly rugged too, I've had it for three years and it's still going strong.
Pro : a chepa point and shoot wit a big display and decent lense.
Con : it's a point and shoot.

Well, the pros an cons pretty much cover my review. hehehe
I bought this with an open box discount at Circuit City in Sand City, California, USA for $200. At the time, that I bought it, it was $100 cheaper than the unopened box price. It worked fine. So, I guess the best advice is to purchase open box cameras from Circuit City, since they come with the regular warranty and a huge discount.
I guess the biggest con of this camera, is that now that Sony doesn't make 10 megapixel cameras, with all of the above 'pros'. I guess they learned the error of their ways in making a reliable, pocket-sized camera with a sturdy LCD, and non-proprietary batteries. So um, yeah, I guess that's the end of that.
Oh, I gave 'support' a 1 out of 5 because although I never used it for this camera; I've tried getting help from Sony on their HDR-HC3 video camera. When you reach Sony's 'tech support', all you get on the other end of the line, is a person with a list of authorized service centers. Basically, just pray that nothing breaks, because although the parts may be covered under warranty, the labor is likely at least $250 USD. -Whether or not you've still got $1000 left to pay on your Circuit City 2 years, no interest purchase of said device.
Pro : Cheap, Large Display, Automatic Lens Cover, Focus Assist Lamp, Standard AA batteries, LCD Display is not sticking outward where it can be damaged, fits in a pocket, Power doesn't turn itself on when inserted in a pocket
Con : Uses rip-off Sony Memory Stick media instead of SD cards, 2gb memory stick limit, no longer in production
