I now have the SONY DCR SR290E which I will get a comparison done soon, so PLEASE do not message me asking about the features of this as I wouldn’t know, thank you

A couple of side by side videos showing the comparison between a MiniDV and a Digital Camdorder

The first clip is from the MiniDV Sony DCR-HC27E and the second is from the Canon FS100, which stores the image on an SD Card

here is what you do – open this video up in two windows. one you play from the start and in the other window cue the clip from where the cannon starts up… and then -you can see the difference.

actually i did have the sony hc27 for two years, it was brilliant. very sturdy and reliable….but i just got my cannon and it kicks serious arse!! i was always a fan of miniDVs but now SD cards rule ..cheers

    Don’t you think …
Don’t you think that this comparison is a little unfair jiffyman? I mean, you are comparing a Sony MiniDV camcorder and a Canon flash memory camcorder. Both of the camcorders should of been MiniDV or flash memory.

I will say that the Canon camcorder has better image and sound quality than the Sony camcorder. I like both Sony and Canon camcorders.

    Canon’s was clearly …
Canon’s was clearly and distinctively better; I just upgraded from a Panasonic SDR-S7 to the FS100 and waiting for battery to charge. I was most attracted by the zoom capability and of course flash media! Thanks for the preview

    1) excuse me for …
    1) excuse me for bad english
    2) Mini DV use a lower compression than mpg4 or mpg2 used for recording in sd cards. Mini DV is a better support than sd cards for making videos (Mini DV supports faster writing speed than sd cards)
the lower quality of the minidv camera is caused of course from a low quality MiniDV ripping on PC

I just purchased the FS100. I am very glad I did. I could tell a big difference in the video, the first thing I noticed w/ the Canon was that you could see the cows! Sound, not much difference. Now I will be waiting for my Canon to get here!!

Canon is better for picture quality; you can actually see the cows individually and see them move. With Sony you couldn’t see any movement. Sound seemed to be the same.
