The F23 is the highest-end digital cinema camera in the CineAlta family. This model has high-quality design and operability that enable a film camera type shooting style, provides color reproduction and speed effects required in movies and commercials and ensures efficient production workflow.
The compact size and high level mobility of this camera are achieved by directly docking the HDCAM-SR portable recorder SRW-1, which is regarded as the top-end HD format, to the short camera body. High compatibility is also maintained with a wide range of film-camera accessories, and the model also features an SR Motion function that can shoot films with fast forward and slow motion speed effects similar to film cameras at full resolution HD.
Equipped with the latest 2/3 progressive 3CCD, a 14-bit A/D converter, and the industry-leading DSP (Digital Signal Processor), the F23 uses the latest digital technology to expand the dynamic range and provide high definition images.

I’m not a big fan …
I’m not a big fan of digital cinema cameras for movies and commercials. 35mm is definitely better for both. Digital should really only be used for small budget television shows, live television shows, and low budget filming. The F23 body runs for about $150,000 in the US right now.

What is the point …
What is the point of this camera when you can just get a RED or one of those other 4K camera?
The only advantage as far as I can see, is that you can change the tape over when your run over 40 minutes. This camera would probably only get used for TV and Ads.

Well, you can scan …
Well, you can scan 35mm film up to 30K and film still has better contrast. But if ergonomics win over picture quality like in the consumer world, what you say could be true.

When these cameras …
When these cameras become standard, proper film cameras will be dead.

Camera bodies like …
Camera bodies like this are usually leased for production, unless they’re owned by an active studio using them almost constantly. In part for the reason Hamaka points out, that most cameras are obsolete for high end production within a matter of months.
