Sony Digital video camera recorder using a disk?

I have a Sony Digital Video camera recorder Handycam DCR-DVD108/DVD308/DVD608/DVD708
.I want to know wat I should do to the disc or to the camera before I start recording.
I bought this camera and it is not as easy to use as the other cameras, I would really appreciate it if u could help me with this.

The DVD needs to be formatted prior to recording. After recording, it needs to be finalized in order to be played back in another DVD player.
