Hello from ZodTTD of zodttd.com!
I recently made a new build of psx4pandora, the Sony Playstation 1 emulator for the incredible Pandora. Pandora is a extremely high end homebrew gaming-oriented handheld ( openpandora.org ) as seen on Slashdot.
This video was quickly made to get feedback on what games to showcase in a more professionally made video coming soon.
The three games showcased are (in order) Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy 7, and Wipeout XL.
This video is accurate and shows these games running on a devkit running at STOCK speed. This is truly an amazing handheld!
Thanks for the support,
ZodTTD

Can I use desktop applications on a psp?
Can I play game from other consoles on a psp?
Can I run almost any opensource application that can be compiled for ARM on a psp?
Is the psp the most advanced mini-netbook with gaming controls and tv-out?

So does the psp, …
So does the psp, where is your point?
The Pandora is a great piece of hardware but nearly every single thing on it is a compromise. There is a market for this kind of device, but I don’t think it’s a very big market. It’s also priced too high. There are quite a few machines that are almost as powerful but available at almost 1/2 the price.
I have known these guys (not personally) for years on gp32x and I hope they succeed but I really think they missed the mark on price.

The Pandora is …
The Pandora is going to be weird for game development, in a good way.
With older handheld systems, you program with an SDK that runs on a desktop, then you run it in emulation, then you use some special way [maybe a re-writable cartridge, maybe a transfer cable] to play it on the handheld.
With the Pandora, you write it, compile it, and run it on the handheld. It’s way easier than doing homebrew for anything else.

I’m still getting …
I’m still getting one when they release this next version… now that I know about it, I wouldn’t even think of getting any other handheld game system, it would just feel like I’m settling for second best… See because for me, it’s not all about the games, plus on proprietary handheld game systems, you can only play -games- and on top of it, you can only play games made specifically for it… But that’s my favorite thing about OPEN pandora, you can do whatever you want on it… Not just games..

No, the Pandora …
No, the Pandora can’t run WINE, actually.
Well, you could, but it wouldn’t work since all Windows programs are compiled for x86.

One great feature …
One great feature of the Pandora is watching Divx movies. So, I will be able to take mine ’round a friends house and plug it straight into his TV and watch a film.
Or if I brought along a couple of gamepads, we could play 2 player SNES Mario Kart etc on the big screen.
On top of all that it’s a tinkerers dream machine – see what software you can get running on it, MythTV frontend maybe..?
This device fits my needs perfectly – can’t wait to start playing with mine!

Stretch to fit …
Stretch to fit looks terrible if it is in any ratio beside 1:2. An exact doubling (in both directions) looks fine, but partial stretches don’t.

I was saying that’s why I hate the PSP, because it’s too locked-down.

Open Source …
Open Source Handhelds are the future.
1. It’s not locked-down like all the other portable gaming systems… You don’t have to “hack” it. It’s Linux.
2. It’s Linux. You can use linux programs on it, like open office or instant messengers such as pidgin, media players, web browsers, any other linux application you can think of…
3. It can run linux software? How about wine, or a virtual machine, or a dedicated counter-strike server? LOL

Some odd balls …
Some odd balls cometing on here stating the Pandora will fail. The first batch sold out 6 months ago. Theirs a huge que.
It is far more powerfull than any other handheld.
Can take SD cards which load far faster than PSP games.
it is partly designed to run the trilions of emulators and free game roms already available on the net.
Dont compare it to a laptop you cant put a laptop in your pocket.
