The LED I used was similar to this one:

This should work fine.

And as for a tutorial, the problem is that there are MANY models of the sixaxis/ds3 controllers out there!

The controller does not have the LED built in. The modification in this video is that I have added an LED behind the button. And what makes it different from the others is that it changes color. :)
