I would stay away from this if your are looking for a simple MP3 player that you just drag and drop your files on the flash drive and boom there you go. Unfortunately Sony like most of their stuff has made this with proprietary qualities. So whatever MP3 files you want to play you have to Convert it, using Sony's proprietary program, and then move it to your Bean. If this was for myself I would probably stick with it because of the battery life and the small size. However, I had purchased it has a Christmas Present and the person I am giving it too isn't all that Tech Savy. Luckily enough I opened the box to preload it with songs and discovered all this before hand and was able to avoid taking it back during the after Christmas rush.
Also, it doesn't include any carrying case or arm band for working out. So that is a big minus too!
Pro : Cool Style, Small Size, Long Battery Life
Con : Flimsy USB Plug, Proprietary Software, No Arm Band or Holster for Working Out.

This is an excellent purchase, because it exceeded my expectations. First, I can put a lot more songs on with the ATRAC files than with MP3 or WMA. At the moment I have 150 songs, and I'm only half way full. Way better than any other mp3 player. Plus I can listen to the radio at any time. It has a feature where you can do a FM scan. This is a handy feature for when I'm on the road traveling for business. My morning runs I'm not searching for a radio station like I used to with my other protable radio. The transfer of songs was real quick, and took about an hour to transfer my 150 songs. NOT BAD!!!!! All around I'm so glad I went with the Sony bean, because I know it will last a long time.
Pro : FM radio, ATRAC, Battery, cuteness
Con : None Yet

I really love my Sony Bean, but there are many thing that still confuse me.The Bean is perfect for long trips because it has long battery life. Bu if you want to work out with it, you should get a different MP3 player.
Pro : Pretty, Small, Sound Quality is good.
Con : Screen is too small, USB Plug is flimsy, no string for working out.

Sony seems more preoccupied by protecting the property rights of "Sony Music" than producing a user-friendly product that will let their customers listen to their favourite music.
To use the NW-E305 you have to go trough software that converts your MP3 files. It is a huge application named SonicStage that is slow as a snail even on a new PC that runs at 2.8 GHz.
Sony calls the NW-E305 a "MP3 Player" but it is not. It is a player that plays only Sony's own particular format named Atrac3. When you buy the player Sony gives you the software that will do the conversion from your own MP3s to the .DAT files that the player needs. So if you want to travel with your favourite MP3s stored on a convenient USB memory that you can plug on any computer you want, forget that with the NW-300 series Walkman.
There is another trap you have to watch for. If you complain to Sony that the use of SonicStage is too complicated and that you just want to drag and drop your MP3s from your PC to the player, they will tell you about another software named MP3 File Manager. It is true, with this application your can drag and drop. But that's all. Your MP3 are still converted and blended into data files that have none of the MP3 files' characteristics we are used of. Secondly this File Manager is also very slow, anyhow, a lot slower than copying files with Windows File Manager as you would do with any other MP3 Player.
Pro : Nice shape and pink color that will please people less concerned with technical matters.
Con : Obligation to convert MP3 file to Sony's own format.

I bought one of these from the Sony store but after having used it for a couple of days, I gave it back for a number of reasons.
1. I had found the cover for the USB difficult to slide open. I had several practises at this, opening and closing it, but I have this deep nagging suspicion that I was going to eventually break it through use.
2. Compared to the iPod, the interface isn't as friendly nor as easy to use. It's not hard, it's just that after having gotten used to the ease of control on the iPod, it just makes this one look bad.
3. Although it was the design that I loved, it's cool to have a little bean in your pocket! I just had to admit defeat when I compare it to the iPod nano. Although the nano was so much more expensive, the price reflects how cool, and sophisticaed the whole iPod devices were.
Pro : Charges up quickly
Con : Very flimsy USB cover. Interface not great.
