Transfer Mini DV from sony handy cam DCR-PC9 to PC running vista?

And now for the big problem…I don’t have a firewire.
I have a sony handy cam DCR-PC9E and I want to transfer my old DV tapes to my computer for storage and editing.
Is there ANY possible way to do this? Without a firewire?
The camera has a USB wire but my computer doesnt recognise anything when i plug it in.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Since you did not tell us what computer hardware you are using, we have no way to know if adding a firewire port is even possible.

If you somehow accidentally and magically get USB streaming to work (most don’t/can’t), the video imported will be a very compressed (low video quality) video…

USB-to-firewire cable/adapter/hub/converter things won’t work…

Good luck.

It would be worth it to get a firewire cable. The transfer speed is quicker and you get a higher quality video. If it doesn’t recognize your camcorder with the USB cable, then go to your camcorder’s manufacturer’s website and download the driver and codec software for your computer. Make sure your camcorder is unplugged while you do this. After you download those, open them and install them. After that, plug in your camcorder and turn it on. It should recognize it then.
