Lately my sony ericsson has been saying i need to insert a smart chip. It completely locks up the screen and i cant get to the menu. The only thing i can do is call 911. Dont ask.
The first thing to try is cleaning the contacts for the smart chip, on the phone and the chip itself. Use a little rubbing alcohol on a Q-Tip and be careful you don't bend the contacts in the phone.

You need to put your SIM card in.- if it IS already in, remove it, wait 2 mins put it back, if that doesn't work call cust care.
Also if you don't have an account, or you do but it has been suspended- you will get that error. That means the SIM isn't active, then you need to sign up.or pay the bill to reinstae service
Also- if you have active service you can get that error if there is an issue with the device/or SIM. Again call customer care

I got the same message but it turned out that the contacts were just dirty. when I took it to my service provider.
