What is the estimated useful life of a Sony digital camera?

anyone know the expected useful life of a sony digital camera? filling out a fixed assets form..

There must be a table for this somewhere. I'd expect it to become "obsolete" after 3 years, even though it is still functioning. If you plan on buying a new one in 3 years, I'd call the useful life 3 years.

I'd expect it to need repair or replacement in 5-to-7 years, though, if you don't drop the thing.

You don't say which camera, but most entry-level DSLR's seem to have a shutter rated at 50,000 cycles, so any point and shoot would be at that level or lower, I am sure. How many pictures do you take per year? Divide that into 50,000 for a maximum life span and I think it would be 100% defensible on audit.

They will generally live as long as they are cared for. 10 yrs perhaps. They might not be relevant then, but who cares. The longer you have it listed as lasting though, the more depreciation will occur.
