Sometimes it is hard to define precisely what kind of computing device a particular machine is—the lines are sometimes a little blurry. Help to identify these types of computing devices.
What keeps Sony’s PlayStation from being referred to as a personal computer?
1. Its history as a dedicated game device
2. It cannot produce graphics of a quality that matches that of a workstation
3. Its microprocessor is not as fast as those found on personal computers today
4. It cannot accept peripheral devices like keyboards or DVD players
I would say it is #1
Both the PS2 and the PS3 have Sony supported Linux
The PS3 has an amazing graphics card and an extreamly fast CPU
I have a keyboard/mouse attached via USB to my PS3, so it will take peripheral's. I know the PS2 will use a keyboard/mouse in at very lease their Linux. The PS3 has built in printer support.
If I remeber right Sony tried to pass the Play Station off as a computer to get by a tax, but the government wanted the money, and thus it is classified as a gaming machine
