What’s the difference between the Sony Portable Reader and The Amazon Kindle?

Are there any other gadgets like these?

I have read that Sony only works with their given software & books aren’t discounted too much from the regular price.
The Kindle has an internet connection to Amazon & Wikipedia. The books can be around $10 for a best seller. It appears to me to be the better option. Sony has 20,000 titles available & Amazon has 90,000.

That said, I think they will come down significantly in price in a year or two & neither support library books from e-libraries right now.
I’m waiting for the 2nd Gen. Right now Kindle wins out, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony comes up with a better device later. Neither device has a backlight though, which I’m sure is annoying.

Edit: Just saw this and wanted to pass it along. USA Today did a comparison article. http://www.usatoday.com/tech/columnist/edwardbaig/2007-11-28-ebook-readers_N.htm?loc=interstitialskip

Kindle wins. The Kindle has a wireless access for updates. The Sony uses USB for updates.

Sony looks nicer and has a backlight. However, it lacks wireless connectivity. You need a PC to download new books.

Kindle has it’s own wireless network, but that comes with a price. Even if they were giving Kindles for free, you’d still be paying $30 a month just for the wireless service.
