Why auto channel programming on Sony TV can't find certain digital channels that do exist?

I have comcast cable tv (limited lineup) hooked up to a Sony digital LCD tv. When I use auto channel programming to find channels, I noticed that it skips certain digital channels that I can see clearly exist (stable signal clear pictures). Added to the problem is that Sony does not offer a way for users to add channels that its auto programming doesn't find. Does anyway have similar experience, or know why auto programming won't find certain channels?

We have a Sony TV. I have noticed the same thing, but I was able to find a way to program them manually. It took a while and I would have to go back and work with it a while to figure it out again. I think they all have a way to do it manually if you can muster the patience to fiddle with it for half an hour.

What looks like an okay picture might be considered a weak channel by the tv tuner, so it skips it.
