Why do dvd burn programs not recognize my blank sony dvd?

I put in my blank sony dvd into my d drive but when i click for destination to put my movie it does not show. it will only let me choose toshiba.

what type of your dvd disc?

    Aside from the fact I am always having a headache dealing with Sony hardware (aside from PlayStation 1/2) the burner program always report the name of the burner drive not the blank inserted there, so if your Sony blank is in a Toshiba drive then reporting Toshiba is right; otherwise it is a hardware failure in something.
