It keeps on telling me that the photos are read-only and I have read the booklet from back to front to find out why it is read-only and how to change it. I have two other Sony cameras and don’t have this problem.
If it takes a SD card, take it out and there should be a small switch on the side that you can move. I had the same problem and it turned out that the card was switched to read-only.

Maybe because the photos are in use.

Can you delete them off the card via the computer?

Go to the format mode and format the camera memory – this will delete all images stored in your camera memory.

Some Memory Stick media include a write-protect tab to prevent accidental erasure of data. On the back of the Memory Stick media slide the write-protect tab in the direction of the arrow for write-protect mode. When in write-protect mode it is possible to read data but not to write or delete data. Slide the write-protect tab in the direction opposite the arrow to allow data to be written or deleted.

You’ve probably enabled protection on them. Read the manual again on Protect.
