I have a Sony DV camcorder and I just purchased a firewire card for my computer which installed fine. When I connect the camcorder it is recognized by Windows XP fine and when I go into my Roxio DVD builder it recognizes it also and I am able to control the camcorder as far as rewind, fast fwd, etc. but when I start to capture the video it does not appear on the screen. Any help would be great.
Try another video edit package. Try Windows Media Maker 2. Comes with SP2.
Check in the control panel under "scanners & cameras" and see if your camcorder is recognized. If not then add it there with the wizard.

It may be that your capture program is capturing the stream to a file, but just not showing you a preview on your screen. If you think this might be the case, try to play back the captured file after you have captured it.

my Pinnacle 10 software has the option of turning off the preview video to make it faster to capture.
