We have a Vizio 42" television coming and I wondered if Sony PS1 will work with it?
Yes. It will work.
A few points:
1. The PS3 plays all PS1 games
2. If you hook up the PS1 to the Vizio and the image is stretched, set the TV to "Fullscreen" or "4:3" mode. (The reason: Your TV is Widescreen (16:9) . The PS1 was made for Fullscreen (4:3) TV’s).
Hope that helps!

No.
They weren’t built with HD capabilities.
You have to play it on a standard TV.
Hope this helps.

Yes your PS1 console would play on your HDTV buy using Composite cable which is the yellow, red & white cable. Buy other way, did you know that you could play your old PS1 games on your PS3 console? Not only that, it will give a clear progressive picture & better sound.
-I own Resident Evil 1-2 & Mortal Kombat Trilogy.

All HDTVs have composite inputs and RF(old tv aerial)connections so u can play any games console using it but non hd games consoles like ps1, ps2, xbox etc will look very pixlated(squarish) cause they were originally designed to work with old crt tvs which display interlaced images.

yes your ps1 will work as all you need to do is to insert the scart cable from the ps1 to the tv. You are able to play the ps1 on any tv that has a scart connection.

Yup, but the picture will be stretched so don’t expect it to look too good. As far as the working factor is concerned, then the answer is yes.You will need to connect it with the AV cable (HDMI wasn’t even discovered when PS1 was out). AV cable, is the 3 colored wire you usually connect most of the things which don’t have HDMI to a TV.
