Would upgrading any locked Sony Ericsson mobile phone also unlocks it?

Hi. I buy Sony Ericsson mobile phones a lot as gifts for friends but they are locked to work only on one network.

So would upgrading any locked Sony Ericsson mobile phone using Sony Ericsson website also unlocks it?

No – unlocking and upgrading at 2 different parts of the phone

Upgrading only changes the software you see and use, unlocking actually changes some codes and security in the phone that are not accessible to end users (i.e. you and me)

You need some special software to unlock the codes and change them, that is what the people who charge you for unlocking have – if you want to unlock lots of phones you can have a look at buying the software – its about £300
